The perfect chance to hone writing & editing skills
My internship with Snack was a great experience overall. Snack had a very relaxed, fun environment that made me feel comfortable immediately. As an American, it was fun working in this type of environment because we got to learn a lot about British culture, humour and football.
Coming into the internship, I had absolutely no idea what I would be doing. Given my limited football knowledge, I felt quite limited to less important tasks like updating player profiles upon FootballFanCast.com.
Although I didn’t realise it until about halfway through the internship, Snack do a great job in terms of allowing the interns the freedom to pursue jobs that they are interested in doing. Once I spoke up about wanting to write more, I had plenty of opportunities to work on my writing skills. Also, one of my favorite jobs at Snack was editing stories that emerged from the FFC News Desk. By gaining editing experience, this looks great on my CV and it was a fun reading about the news going on in the football world.
Working with social media also represented a great experience for me. When applying to internships this summer that might prove the most valuable experience I gained. All the companies I have talked to recently really value my experiences of Twitter, Google+ and Facebook.
Sitting in on the weekly meetings and brainstorming sessions was also a great learning experience. The meetings were always a nice change of pace/break in the day. The meetings were also when I learned the most about Snack and Sports Revolution’s partnership. I would’ve never guessed the magnitude of the business Snack carries out if I hadn’t got to to sit in on all of those types of meetings.
All in all, it was a lot of fun working at Snack. I really can’t thank the guys enough for a great four months.
